Back to Bunnings Chadstone for another Sausage Sizzle April 29th 2023

If there's one thing we know how to do well, it's a good old Aussie BBQ. Lots of great people to meet and feed.

Christmas Celebration Lunch December 14th 2022

Our first full celebration since 2019 (pre covid). The Racecourse Hotel Caulfield was the venue and they put on a delicious spread for us.

Waste education session by Jessica Phillips on November 23rd 2022

Jessica gave us a very informative talk on nearly every aspect of domestic recycling and rubbish removal. She showed an extensive knowledge of her topic and left us with two very useful tips:

- don't recycle tea bags

- leave the tops on bottles before putting them in the recycle bin.

Visit by Local Member for Higgins, Dr Michelle Ananda-Rajah on November 16th 2022

Michelle made history as Higgins’ first Labor Member in the seat’s 73-year history. As a general physician for 13 years at Alfred Health she showed an extensive knowledge of mens health issues and her passion for men's health was obvious when she spoke to the members of our shed.

After lots and lots of shed meetings and negotiations, we now have a shed sign. Yippee

Combined Christmas/New Year BBQ January 5th 2022

At last, we could celebrate the new year with some delicious food. Just like the old times in our old shed, but in a much better environment.

Official Opening of The Shed by the Mayor of Stonnington, Cr Kate Hely November 17th 2021

The Mayor Kate Hely toured around our Shed and its garden surrounds and spoke to a large number of members and their families. She recounted how the Shed had developed since it's inception in 2016. Stonnington Council advanced $400,000 towards its establishment and the occasion was topped off by the unveiling of the official plaque and the offering of drinks and delicious finger food to all.

Visit by Local Member for Higgins, Katie Allen MP on April 28th 2021

Ms Allen ("call me Katie") showed a keen interest in our local Men's Shed and especially its role in helping the local men keep occupied and therefore contributing a positive influence on their health. She gave a very warm but authorative address to a full house and pointed out her connection with health, having had a background in the discipline over many years.

Visit by Local Member Michael O'Brien MP April 14th 2021

As well as showing his support behind the good work done by our Men's Shed, Michael is also a keen supporter of many local community organisations in the Malvern electorate. This is his second visit to our shed and it was obvious that he enjoyed the coffee, biscuits and especially the cream sponge provoded by us.

Bunnings Sausage Sizzle April 10th 2021

Once again, the Men of the Shed proved ourselves invaluable to the local community by feeding many of them with with a three course meal (prime barbequed beef sausages topped with perfectly cooked onions and sitting on a splendidly cut slice of wholemeal, multigrain or white bread........and the choice of three sauces).

Technology and Cyber Security talk February 26th 2020

And what an interesting talk it was. Taylor Speechley from the Bendigo Bank in East Malvern took us through the precautions we need to take when we open messages and phishing emails. He pointed out the types of hoax phonecalls we may receive and how we should handle them. Thank you Taylor.

Christmas Lunch December 11th 2019

A great time was had by all and Peter Magree gave another of his succinct and interesting talks accentuating our achievements over the year. A pat on the back to everyone.

Next year will be even better again - the move to our new Shed will be the highlight and an event which we're all looking forward to.

Later note written early 2021 - Heh, heh - 2020 better than 2019???

Guest Speaker July 31st 2019

Sean Teer came to the Shed and showed us the work of the not for profit organisation Envision. It collects and recycles waste products (predominately bottle tops) to produce innovative products

These include re-building old caravans, making arcade games, portable mini golf courses and portable classrooms for special needs schools just to name a few. It takes discarded items and turns them into unique products, all of which are donated to the most needy and disadvantaged in the local community, around Australia and overseas."
